In Igbo tradition, when you kneel to propose to a woman, you hand over control to her – Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie who many idolize for his words of wisdom has dropped another one for them. The multiple award winning actor condemned the act of getting on one knee to propose to women.

Edochie explained that kneeling down in front of a lady in Igbo tradition was tantamount to handing over the authority to her. It meant she would become the head of the family.

He drew analogy with the local wedding known as “Igbankwu” where a lady gives her husband-to-be wine while kneeling down. He said this tradition signifies that the man has been accepted by the lady as her husband.
Edochie stated that it is the lady that kneels before the husband, not vice versa.
He therefore urged elders to correct and guide the younger generation who are quickly adopting the western tradition.

He said he did not kneel to propose to his wife and he has been married for 50 years. He added that no one has ever settled disputes for them.
